Bibliometric Assessment of Library and Information Science Journals in India (1912‐2016)

Abstract

This paper briefly elucidates the journey of Library and Information Science (LIS) journals published from India since 1912-2016. The study explores that 196 LIS journals have been produced in India during the past 11 decades covering the period of from 1912-2016. The states namely New Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and West Bengal have contributed significantly andNew Delhi emerges as the most productive city among the others regarding the production of LIS journals. The study reveals that out of total 196 journals, 15 have been indexed in the University Grants Commission Academic Performance Indicators List and 41 have found their place in national and international indexing and abstracting sources.

K. P. Singh, Department of Library and Information Science, University of Delhi, Delhi

Dr. K. P. Singh currently working as Associate Professor and Coordinator of the Department of Library and Information Science, University of Delhi. He is also the Academic Council Member, University of Delhi and Nodal Officer of MLIS/M. Phil and Ph.D. Admissions in the Department. He is also the General Secretary, Delhi Library Association and President- Satija Research Foundation for Library and Information Science. He has obtained Ph.D. in Library and Information Science from GNDU Amritsar in addition to M. Phil (LIS), MLIS, PGDCA and MSc (Agri.). His areas of specialization are ICT Applications, Content Development, Designing Online Information Products, Library Classification, Knowledge Organization, Information Storage and Retrieval System and Information Seeking Behavior. He is a prolific author and written more than 150 articles contributed to books, journal, conference papers and chapters in books. Dr. Singh guided 6 Ph.D., 32 M. Phil, and 80 MLIS Projects, in addition, he has completed three major research projects funded by DRDO and UGC.
